I use several SEO tools because they usually don’t do much. But there is one that has opened up new perspectives for search engine optimization.

With Semrush, you can measure positions, search for keywords, check incoming links, track competition, and even conduct SEO audits.
The quality of each tool is different, but due to the fact that I consider Semrush the best SEO-tool, this is the opportunity to research keywords. Moreover, Semrush was already specially adapted for learning the Hungarian language a few months ago.
Semrush also has a free and paid version. In this article, I focus only on the free version, and if I’m interested in a later article, I will show how much more the paid version gives. If I enter a domain with SEMrush first, I get a lot of useful information right now. Let’s see them in a row.
The first thing that deserves attention is organic search. Here is what I can find out:
- how much the site is rated organic, i.e. Google and unpaid traffic
- how many keywords are ranked and ranked
- how much traffic is estimated.
It is important to see that these are only summary data, we can also extract much more detailed data, but this summary is already very useful. Let’s look at it in more detail and what we can do!
Estimated Organic Visitor
The intended organic visitor to the page is indicated here. To learn about the alleged organic turnover on our website is not a big advantage. But if we get such a number for all our competitors, this is a huge weapon.
This is how we find out where we are in a strong order, how far ahead or behind our competitors are, but more importantly, this is the market potential.
Just look at the site of the market leader 5-10, and we will already understand what opportunities we have. But this feature of Semrush not only helps to outline an existing competition, but is also useful if you are thinking about opening a new market.
Number of keywords
This is another very important metric because it shows how many keywords get traffic to this page. It is also useful if we compare ourselves with the parties to the competition. It is easy to see that we are not focused on a large number of keywords and what opportunities are on the market. We have only 100 keywords for the 500 contest? It is time to create new pages and content.
Estimated cost of traffic
This is a less useful feature than others, but it is acceptable as an index that estimates the approximate market value of organic traffic (if you have to pay for it with AdWords).
It is important to see that Semrush is not an ideal tool, for example, ite.hu’s organic turnover is much higher than that of Semrush, but that is not the point. The bottom line is that we can see quasi-intrigue in our keywords and traffic data .
Links in Semrush
The next field that deserves attention is a link to the data. SEMrush in this summary there are three things:
- all backlink numbers
- all referral domains
- number of IP addresses related to
Of course, detailed data can be obtained later (anchor text, specific backlink, etc.), but it is also suitable for competitive comparison.
How many referral domains and how many links. To tell you how strong your link profile is. It is worth comparing this data with organic traffic. If my link profile is strong, but my organic traffic is low, what will it tell me? Maybe I’m not using the opportunity? Maybe there is data on keywords for which I do not have a page? Should I invest in content production or link building?
Using these preliminary data, you can get a lot of useful information.
Of course, there are tools specifically designed to control backlinks (such as Majestic), but this is only recommended for agencies, as it has only one function. at the same price as Semrush, which offers significantly more features.
Changes in organic traffic over time
My other favorite is SEMrush Schedule daily organic traffic. Those who follow ite.hu could already see this picture. This shows that Semrush evaluates every day how the organic traffic of the site developed. How do you rate this data?
Well, based on the placement of this keyword and page. And what is it used for?
For me, anyone looking for search engine optimization is very good at discovering if there has been a significant algorithm update on Google. This was very useful, for example, during the Penguin algorithm, because I could see which pages of organic traffic rolled back or jumped, so I could determine which link profile had an effect on Penguin.
Ok, but what can I use for this?
Those who are not engaged in SEO are also not interested in this. You can observe what are the long-term market trends. Who falls in love with organic circulation and for whom? If you see this, you already know which winning strategy is to increase organic traffic.
You choose the competition that suits you best, and you can use Semrush to find out which tactics you are using (are your keywords good for backlink?).
By the way, if you hear about a great update of the algorithm, you can check the movements of your competitor. Who is the one who coped well with this, and who is wrong? And you already have a way to be successful, which way to follow.
AdWords Data in Semrush
Anyone using Adwors may be the good news that Semrush provides not only organic traffic data, but also Adwords. Here is a screenshot below. Here I put two new red arrows.
Below the Paid Search field, you will find the following information:
- estimated traffic from AdWords
- Estimated AdWords Keywords
- Sample AdWords Edition
Of course, these are only approximate data, they are not accurate, but they are ideal for comparing competitors.
An existing orange line may appear on our well-known chart that shows the amount of AdWords traffic.
I’m not particularly familiar with Adwords, but I think it’s very useful to see how much competitor spends on Adwords, and how much Adwords generates in proportion to traffic.
You can not use Adwords at all or only minimally, while your competitors are much more active. If it’s worth it, maybe it’s worth it for you, maybe it’s time to optimize your AdWords costs.
What is more interesting, of course, is that Semrush also determines which keywords will be advertised on Adwords (see later). Maybe you don’t have to say what the possibilities are (and how much work you save).
Let’s get a little deeper
If you think that I told you a lot about Semrush, then you are mistaken, while we are only about 1%. It’s time to go a little deeper and discover 1%!
Top Organic Keywords
If you must choose what the Most valuable part of SemRush I would choose this tool without hesitation. Why?
You can find here which keywords are the driving force behind your site and competing pages . Unfortunately, we only get ten key data in the free version, but when I started using the free version of Semrush, I came across the keywords that I created a completely new SEO project and domain.
And if you already have a website, then it’s almost impossible to see the organic sources of your competition. There may be keywords that may not come to your mind.
For example, in the case of ite.hu, for example, the keyword “online image editor” brings good traffic (well, I’m not online right now …). Maybe I do not need to throw this keyword out of my head. I found this with Semrush, I wrote an article, and although it was not closely related to the topic ite.hu, nonetheless a significant portion of those who came to this article became a returning visitor.
It’s fantastic to find keywords in this tool that traditional keyword search tools don’t display because it doesn’t focus on the keyword, but can view keyword information for any number of competitor pages.
So far I have not talked about this, but it is possible from the diagram that we are getting not only keywords, but also what is the domain position for this keyword, how many monthly searches, the cost of AdWords and that the domain is filled with a turnover of approx. what percentage of this keyword.
Of course, this is just a summary, Semrush knows much more if we get a full report, but this is beyond the scope of this article.

Colleagues in Semrush
This is also a useful, though not outstanding, feature of SEMrush It does. Here we find who our main competitors are. Semrush determines this by looking at which keywords have organic traffic and then checking which other domains are competing for those keywords.
Why is this tool useful?
Well, firstly, it gives a good overview of the competition and how we participate in the competition. Who are our main competitors. But this is only the main function.
What I use is a collection of keywords. If we go beyond our own site and look at the competition, and then compete with its competitions and contests, we can also make a list of 40-100 domains that are more closely or weakly related to our topic. After that, you can start searching for keywords. Of course, this use of SEMrush already requires a PRO account, but this is enough to do this work once a year.
If you have not yet paid for a professional tool for testing link profiles, this is a great opportunity for SEMRush. Here we can see exactly what URL we are referring to or with our competitors.
At the same time, you can check where the link came from and if there is a way to copy its link profile. Of course, it is not a good idea to get a link from everywhere, or there are places where we have no chance, but perhaps we can find a number of options that have never been before us.
And, of course, Semrush gives you the ability to view the link profile on fifty competing pages, and this is an amazing potential for links.

Indexed Pages – What are TOP Pages?
This report shows which subpages have the most links. What is it good for? Well, maybe there is a subpage that has great potential, and we have not thought about this before (this could be a calculator, infographic page, etc.).
The fact is that, on the one hand, we can extract new ideas from the competition, and on the other hand, copying the link profile will be easier.
More AdWords Data
I mentioned above that Semrush provides AdWords details. You can see some of them in the screenshot below.
In short, you can see which keywords you or your competitor are promoting in Adwords, but you can also see how many Adwords keywords are used by the main competitors and who are the main competitors in this market.
But, of course, this is just an overview screen, Semrush also provides much more detailed data on the corresponding subpage. You can get all of the AdWords keywords found by Semrush, and links to which pages or traffic data.
This is suitable not only for displaying competition, but also for collecting data on keywords.
